The film captures Rachel Carson, the mother of the environmental movement and author of Silent Spring, in the final months of her life as she defends her book and battles with cancer. Carson is played by the actress Kaiulani Lee, and the film is shot at Carson’s cottage on the island of Southport Maine. $5 at the door. Members free.

Steve will focus on Rachel Carson during his talk. This event is co-sponsored by Water, Earth, Birds and Bees “WEBB” a local environmental collaboration of island and summer residents. Back by popular demand! We are planning another visit to an island cemetery this Fall. The walk will be at Kent Cove Cemetery. The tour will feature descriptions of the lives of some of the people laid to rest at the cemetery, along with information about gravestones and burial traditions.
