The North Island Museum began with Lewis and Ida Haskell, a husband and wife team who spent years collecting items significant to North Haven's history. They often rescued items from the town dump or from buildings being torn down, knowing that the artifacts, photographs, and documents all played a role in the island's past.
In 1986, Lewis and Ida donated their homemade museum to the North Haven Historical Society, along with the surrounding land. From there, the museum continued to grow to include several buildings. When Lewis and Ida lived adjacent to the museum, visitors came as much to see them as to see all the treasures contained within the museum. |
